Meet the Tutor

Meet the Tutor – Lee

The switch to online learning brought the opportunity to add to our team from outside Simcoe County. Lee has been a valuable addition! She brings years of experience as a classroom teacher and literacy coach to her role as a structured literacy tutor here at Access Learning.

How did you get involved with Access Learning?

I wanted to transition from a traditional classroom setting to working with students on a one -on- one basis. When a position became available with Access Learning, I jumped at the opportunity.

How would you describe your tutoring style?

My style is very supportive, engaging, multi-sensory, and adaptive. I am always listening to the students, with what their interests and needs are and I layer that into each session. I believe it is important to connect with the student to build a rapport. Students who struggle want to feel safe in order to take risks with their learning.

What do you like to do outside of tutoring?

I am an avid gardener and bird watcher. I also run a cottage rental business and the spring and summers are always super busy. I would not have it any other way. I am usually getting the garden beds ready for planting and seeds. It is a lot of fun to see all the activity with the animals, hummingbirds, and insects zooming by going from flower to flower.

What is your favourite meal?

Hands down my favourite meal is homemade veggie pizza. When the dough has been made from scratch and all the toppings are freshly cut, it is so delicious. You can add all that extra cheese if you like. That is the ultimate treat!

What is a quote that inspires you?

“You’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” – Christopher Robin
